Brazil Shrimp Farm - Semi-Intensive Culturing in Open Pond
Treatment Summary
One of the largest shrimp producers in Brazil with Semi-Intensive farming has been using BZT® Waste Digester and BZT® Aquaculture for over a year producing P. vannamei with excellent results. Semi-intensive farming is done in open ponds.
Objective:
To increase production using the existing infrastructure, BZT® Waste Digester and BZT® Aquaculture were applied as per UTI protocol and Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP). Normal production was approximately 0.63 tons/Ha/cycle with < 30% survival, Average Body Weight of < 8g, FCR > 2, and the aim for the initial trial was >1.5 tons/Ha/cycle with >50% survival, ABW > 10g and FCR of < 1.8
Results:
After 126 days, the final harvest revealed an amazing production increase of 1,400 kg/ha, compared to identical control ponds not treated with BZT® products. Average Body Weight of shrimp increased to 11g, far exceeding expectations of the farmer and displaying a 4g increase over shrimp harvested from untreated control ponds. Survival rate also exceeded expectations. The control ponds only featured a 30% survival rate, whereas the ponds treated with BZT® products resulted in a 63.3% survival rate.
This customer is currently expanding use of BZT® into more Semi-Intensive and Intensive ponds.
