P. vannamei Shrimp Farm - Hainan, China

Treatment Summary

Objective: Effect of application of BZT® products in culturing P. vannamei in saline-alkali soil.

Due to limited natural resources and increased water pollution, the shrimp industry wanted to conduct trials at the Yellow River area to determine sustainability of shrimp farming due to high alkalinity.

A key biology company in Hainan province wanted to apply BZT® to improve the growth performance of shrimp cultured in alkali soil with pH outside the optimum range. Three biological products were compared to determine the performance during the grow out period of 120 days. Products were added every 15 days and water quality was measured in terms of NH3-N, COD, alkalinity, salinity and pH.

Results:

  • Survival rate increased by 14.5%
  • Biomass increased by 33%
  • NH3-N was reduced by 28%
  • Alkalinity was reduced by 23%

Ponds with BZT® treatment yielded better results compared to ponds treated with other products. Ponds treated with BZT® showed better water quality, less Vibrio count and improved bottom soil.
