Semi-Intensive Culturing of P. monodon with Open Ponds - Loay, Bohol, Philippines
Treatment Summary
A large prawn farm in Loay, Bohol, Philippines has been using BZT® products with very good results. All farming is done in open mud bottom ponds with P. monodon (tiger shrimp).
Objective:
- Eliminate bacterial pathogens from pond water.
- Reduce the Total Organic Matter (TOM) from pond soil.
- Control phytoplankton growth and related problems.
- Increase production.
BZT® Waste Digester and BZT® Aquaculture were applied and Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) were implemented. The farmer also used a reservoir with four compartments to clean incoming water for safe water exchange.
Results:
After 132 days of culture, P. monodon have reached >38g in Average Body Weight. The Food Conversion Ratio of 1.39 is a benchmark result, possible by strict feeding protocol and following Best Aquaculture Practices. With a survival of over 77% and an overall production of 6,654 Kg/Ha, this is another happy, long-term customer of BZT® products in the Philippines.
