Summary
The
Situation
A South
Dakota
resident
who
is an
avid
gardener,
had
tried
various
products
to compost
the
grass
clippings
from
his
yard
to use
as fertilizer
for
his
shrubs.
Previous
efforts
yielded
a white
mold
and
unpleasant
odor,
and
he was
not
successful
in obtaining
adequate
compost
material.
The
Solution
The
gardener
used
United-Tech's
BZT®
Compost
Activator
directly
in his
composting
bin
to break
down
the
grass
clippings.
The
Results
The
day
after
applying
BZT®
Compost
Activator,
the
gardener
noticed
there
was
heat
in the
pile.
He could
smell
fermenting
forage,
which
he and
his
neighbor
explained
as a
"pleasant,
nutritious
smell".
After
10 days,
he noticed
the
color
of the
clippings
turned
brown,
and
the
white
mold
had
disappeared.
Twenty
days
after
applying
BZT®
Compost
Activator,
the
pile
began
to cool
down,
and
it had
reduced
to one
third
the
size
of the
original
pile.
Six
weeks
after
the
pile
had
cooled
he had
a rich,
deep
brown
fertilizer.
