Biological Treatment Summary

This bioremediation was performed on soil contaminated by spills and leakages of oil over a period of time. The area was forty (40) feet [12.2m] by thirty eight (38) feet [11.58m].

United-Tech personnel determined that the soil in this area had been contaminated to a maximum depth of twelve (12) inches [30.5cm].

United-Tech ran tests that showed the soil was contaminated at 4,550 ppm of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons. Levels above 100 ppm are considered by the EPA to be contaminated and need to be cleaned up.

United-Tech commenced a bioremediation project which included loosening the contaminated soil past the depth to which it had been contaminated.

The soil was sprayed with OBT® Bioremediation Treatment, a nitrogen source added, windrowed, wet down with water (20 - 25% moisture) and covered with six (6) mil black plastic.

Daily checks were made on the windrowed soil to make sure the moisture remained constant at 20% moisture.

After one (1) week the plastic was removed and a second application of OBT® Bioremediation Treatment was applied, the soil was tilled with a power tiller and the plastic was replaced.

During the second and third week the windrowed pile was checked to maintain the 20% moisture and windrowed once each week.

Three weeks after the treatment, six (6) samples were taken from various parts of the windrowed pile and tested for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons.

These tests showed 13 ppm Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons. A reduction of 99.3% in this three week period.
