Hydrocarbon

Summary
The
Situation
A specialty
lubricant
compounder/blender
had
a large
amount
of hydrocarbon
contaminated
soil
along
railroad
tracks
within
their
building.
Years
of accumulated
oil
leaks
lead
to an
initial
TPH
reading
of over
56,000
mg/Kg.
The
location
of the
rails
and
railroad
ties
made
traditional
"dig
and
haul"
methods
costly
and
nearly
impossible.
The
Solution
United-Tech
recommended
a biological
treatment
program
utilizing
OBT®.
The
program
consisted
of treating
the
soil
to break
down
the
bonds
between
organic
and
inorganic
material.
The
complexion
of the
soil
after
years
of accumulation
went
from
being
compacted
to very
loose,
a soil
that
was
easy
to work.
This
expedited
the
treatment
program,
which
made
it less
time
and
labor
intensive.
The
Results
At
the
completion
of the
program,
TPH
levels
had
been
reduced
to non-detectable
levels.
Regulatory
authorities
performed
a successful
inspection
of the
area.
It is
now
once
again
a pristine
site.
