Major Ground Oil Spill - Manufacturing Company
Biological
Treatment
Summary
The Situation
A manufacturing company experienced a major ground oil spill, which involved 49,000 cubic ft. of contaminated soil. Testing revealed an average Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon (TPH) contamination level of 2,210 mg/L.
The Solution
United-Tech, Inc. implemented a biological treatment program utilizing OBT® Oil Degradation Treatment. The program consisted of the normal treatment protocol of United-Tech, Inc., which includes:
- Excavating the soil and placing it in a containment windrow.
- Watering down the soil to achieve optimum moisture content.
- Spraying the contaminated area with OBT®
- Covering the windrow with heavy mil plastic.
- Maintaining soil moisture and turning the windrow every week.
The Results
Four weeks later, composite sample test results revealed non-detectable limits* of TPH. Total clean-up of this project was achieved with OBT® Oil Degradation Treatment.
