Methylene
Chloride
Biological
Treatment
Summary
The
Situation
A company
reconditioning
aircraft
engines
had
a problem
with
the
discharge
of a
methylene
chloride
contaminated
waste
stream.
The
methylene
chloride
concentrations
were
1,500
ppm
with
a pH
of 8.3.
The
Solution
United-Tech
proposed
a treatment
program
that
consisted
of the
addition
of OBT®.
It was
proposed
that
a seed
application
be performed
followed
by regular
maintenance
applications.
The
treatment
program
was
designed
to decrease
the
methylene
chloride
concentrations.
The
Results
After
seven
(7)
days
of the
treatment
program,
samples
were
taken
and
the
methylene
chloride
level
was
reduced
to .02
ppm.
Almost
a total
break-down
had
taken
place.
