How much water will each pack of BZT® Koi & Pond treat?
An 8 oz pack of BZT® Koi & Pond will treat up to 16,000 gallons of pond water. Typically, it will treat a 1,500 gallon pond for one season.
-
What can I expect after applying BZT® Koi & Pond?
Results. In 2-4 days, there will be a reduction in nitrogen and phosphorus levels. In 3-4 days, there will be a reduction in odors, and water clarity will improve. If algae and heavy organic bottom solids are present before treatment, results will vary based upon quantity and other environmental factors. Please
contact us if you are treating a pond with heavy algae or bottom solids present for more detailed instruction.
-
What is the shelf life of BZT® Koi & Pond?
The shelf life is two years. Longevity depends entirely upon the manner in which it is stored, sealed, and handled. Securely seal pack immediately after use and store in low humidity, out of direct sunlight.
-
Are BZT® Koi & Pond's microbes safe to use?
BZT® Koi & Pond microbial/enzyme strains are indigenous, non-pathogenic, naturally-occuring bacteria. They are completely safe for humans, fish, animals, plants, and the environment.
-
Will BZT® Koi & Pond clear my pond?
BZT® Koi & Pond is best used as a preventative, ongoing management tool. It's best to use BZT® Koi & Pond before problems occur. BZT® Koi & Pond can be effective once the pond has experienced an organic buildup. However, it can take several weeks to notice the impact.
-
Are there ponds where the product should not be used?
Any pond that loses 30% or more of its liquid volume in any given day should not be considered for BZT® Koi & Pond treatment because of the high turnover rate.
-
What does BZT® Koi & Pond do to improve water clarity?
BZT® Koi & Pond can make dramatic improvements in clarity. When clarity is affected by floating organic matter, BZT® Koi & Pond will be highly effective in a matter of weeks.
-
Will BZT® Koi & Pond help remove bottom sludge?
BZT® Koi & Pond's formulation is designed to supply microorganisms and enzymes that work on nutrient sources throughout the complete water column, including the pond bottom. Our product includes two strains of non-hydrogen sulfide producing microbes specifically targeted for bottom solid digestion.
The bottom solids in any pond are one of the primary nutrient contributors to total nutrient loading. As the organic matter at the bottom decomposes, it releases nitrogen and phosphorus into the water column.
BZT® Koi & Pond also contains microorganisms that eliminate these nutrients from the water column, providing complete protection
-
How does BZT® Koi & Pond remove odors?
Most pond odors are caused by hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg smell), sulfur, and ammonia. BZT® Koi & Pond contains microorganisms selected for their ability to outcompete bacteria which produce hydrogen sulfide, thereby eliminating odors. Sulphur thrives in bottom solids. BZT® Koi & Pond microorganisms and enzymes work to break down the bottom solids where sulphur-producing bacteria thrive.
BZT® Koi & Pond accelerates the nitrogen cycle, enhancing the rate at which ammonia is converted into nitrate. Ammonia is the principle cause of odors when high stocking densities or populations of fish are present. By insuring high populations of microorganisms and enzymes, we can alleviate most common odor problems.
-
How does BZT® Koi & Pond deal with Nitrogen?
In the water, nitrogen is found in several forms: ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates. Through a process known as nitrification and denitrification, the BZT® Koi & Pond formula will break the complex forms of nitrogen down into molecular nitrogen, which is a gaseous form. This nitrogen will be degassed through the water, escaping to the surface and leaving the aquatic environment.
-
What effect does BZT® Koi & Pond have on Phosphorus?
Microorganisms are very simple organisms that have two basic functions: to metabolize and reproduce. Microorganisms require phosphorus for their necessary life functions.
BZT® Koi & Pond's microorganisms use phosphorus in their cell mass as a nutrient building block, and the enzymes act as a biological catalyst. Phosphorus is a key component in the makeup of DNA and RNA (the 'building blocks' of life) that are necessary for bacterial cell replication.
-
What causes algae blooms?
Algae are mainly caused by excess nutrients in water. Most ponds become overloaded with nutrients, including nitrogen, phosphorus and organic carbon, typically due to excess feed, overstocking fish, problems with filters, leaf/grass litter, plant fertilizers, and animal manure. These excess nutrients overcome the pond's ability to naturally clean itself. This upset of nature's balance creates an environment for algae growth.
-
Will BZT® Koi & Pond harm my grass/plants?
No. BZT® Koi & Pond's specialized microorganisms won't harm grass areas. It actually benefits your grass by increasing the beneficial soil bacteria population.
