Hair digests extremely slowly, sometimes building up in great quantities in the drains of bathtubs and lavatories. Severe build up in these drains may require daily treatment for up to two weeks, unless the bulk of the blockage is first removed manually. Once removed manually or with extended treatment, regular maintenance applications will keep these materials from forming. If extended treatment or use of mechanical aid does not restore full flow, you almost certainly have some other obstruction that is an inorganic solid (toy, glass, toothbrush or bobby pins) in the trap or line, which needs to be removed manually.
BZT® Drain & Septic is a maintenance/preventative treatment. Standing water in a drainfield is a serious issue that requires more extensive treatment. Contact United-Tech for instructions on what to do.
If septic tank has backed up into sanitary lines, determine if there is a build-up restricting flow at the front baffle in the tank, or if the tank is full of solids. If the tank is full of solids, have it pumped before treating.
If the cap (solids on the top of the waste in the septic tank) is gray in color or has a hard crust approximately 12 inches thick, the septic tank should be pumped before starting to use BZT® Drain & Septic. If there is a thin crust, break up thoroughly and slosh initial treatment over the top.
If the sludge or ash buildup at the bottom of the septic tank is twelve inches or more in thickness, the septic tank should be pumped before starting to use BZT® Drain & Septic (Ash is the remains of completed biological digestion of the wastes that have gone through the septic tank, or inorganic material precipitated from the organic wastes. This buildup will accumulate at the rate of about one inch per year for an average home with a properly sized tank.)
NOTES:
Absorption fields that have water coming to the surface may require 2 weeks to 1 month of aggressive treatment to fully restore percolation.
Biodegradable cleaners and washing compounds, particularly organic cleaners, are highly desirable.
Conservative and occasional use of bowl cleaners & bleaches is compatible.
Your system depends upon bacteria. If you kill them with chemicals, the action stops and trouble results.
Although BZT® Drain & Septic will not attack live tissue, its use will discourage root growth by eliminating waste buildup (their food). If roots are known to exist within the sewer pipes, enough root killer for the length of line should be used before trees start new growth in spring. Allow one week before re-starting the use of BZT® Drain & Septic.
