Sludge, BOD and N Reduction - Commercial WWTP
Biological
Treatment
Summary
The
Situation
The owner of a commercial WWTP experienced foaming, excessive sludge and filter clogging on a regular basis. The pond in question was a new 2000 m3 aerated pond with a Hydraulic Retention Time of 5-10 days.
Objective
To utilize BZT® Waste Digester in conjunction with a filtration system to reduce sludge, BOD5 and N concentrations.
The
Results
After seasonal treatment with BZT® Waste Digester, the WWTP owner reported great satisfaction with the results.
At season end the pond was dewatered, finding little to no sludge remaining. The filter was designed for daily backwashes to prevent clogging. Normally, this means 120 backwashes in a season. However, BZT® Waste Digester prevented the need for a single backwash all season long.
The owner was prepared for composting or transporting sludge to a sanitary refill, but at the end of treatment the client witnessed complete BOD5 and N removal with zero sludge.
