Food Processing Wastewater - Florida
Biological
Treatment
Summary
The
Situation
A large Florida bakery contacted United-Tech, Inc. regarding their septic system and leachate fields. Scheduled grease pumping was not performed as required by a service company, which resulted in the leachate mounds becoming completely impacted by grease. When any water was discharged to the mounds, ‘horrendous’ odors would emanate from them. Neighboring business complained and the system was shut down. All effluent was pumped and hauled twice a week at an exorbitant cost to the bakery.
Objective
- Immediate Goal: Restore porosity to the mounds and allow partial discharge of water without odors.
- Primary Goal: Reduce pumping to once a week.
- Secondary Goal: Aggressively treat the mounds and septic system to restore the leachate fields’ activity and allow 100% discharge of effluent.
BZT® Waste Digester and an aggressive Treatment Program was implemented.
The
Results
Within one week of treatment, BZT® Waste Digester allowed the bakery operator the ability to discharge about 50% of their wastewater to the fields with no horrible odors generated. After two weeks, the bakery was discharging 100% of their wastewater to the fields. Immediate, primary and secondary goals were achieved in record time.
