Odor & Sludge Reduction - Manufacturing Plant Waste Lagoon

Biological Treatment Summary

The Situation

The company wanted to close down their 1,106,321-gallon [4,187.5m³] waste lagoon and connect to the city sewer lines. The problem was that prior to closure the organic bottom solids would have to be pumped out and hauled away after draining off the liquids. There was over three (3) feet [.91m] of bottom solids plus a strong odor coming off the lagoon.

The Solution

United-Tech proposed a bioaugmentation program that consisted of the addition of BZT® Waste Digester. A seed application was performed followed by regular maintenance applications. The treatment program was designed to decrease sludge volume and decrease the odors in the lagoon.

The Results

After a few days the odors were gone. Six (6) months into the treatment program sampling was done and bottom solids had been reduced to one (1) inch [2.54cm] allowing lagoon closure and a massive dollar savings in dredging cost to the company.
