Wastewater
- Hydrogen
Sulfide
and
Foaming
Waste
Water
Treatment
Technical
Bulletin
We
have
received
many
questions
about
two
issues;
one
is hydrogen
sulfide
(H2S)
odors
and
the
second
about
foaming
in wastewater
treatment
systems.
Hydrogen
Sulfide
(H2S)
The
microorganisms
in BZT®
Waste
Digester
will
create
oxidation
of sulfur
compounds
reducing
hydrogen
sulfide
(H2S)
odors
and
will
enhance
and
accelerate
the
sulfur
cycle
converting
the
sulfur
compounds
into
elemental
sulfur
(S)
and
water
(H2O).
Foaming
Filamentous
bacteria,
in particular,
the
Nocardia
species,
cause
the
majority
of foaming
and
sludge
bulking
in wastewater
treatment
systems.
These
bacteria
thrive
in an
environment
of excessive
gas
production
and
excessive
lipids
(fats/greases)
in a
WWTP.
The
microorganisms
in BZT®
Waste
Digester
outcompetes
filamentous
bacteria
for
food
to use
as nutrients
and
breaks
down
lipids
reducing
the
filamentous
bacteria
and
the
associated
foaming
thorough
natural
selection.
These
are
just
two
more
of the
advantages
of using
BZT®
Waste
Digester.
